Losing a tooth is always an exciting milestone for kids—and for us, too! Whether it’s their very first tooth or one of many to come! But teeth have their own agendas and can fall out when they feel like it. That means it may not always happen while your little one is up in bed or in the kitchen. Vacations, weekend trips, or visits to Grandma’s house can make it challenging to keep the magic of the Tooth Fairy alive and well. With a little preparation and a sprinkle of creativity, though, you can still make the moment memorable and magical, no matter where you are.
Pack a “Tooth Fairy Kit”
If you’re ready to leave for a trip but your child has a loose tooth, consider putting together a small “Tooth Fairy Kit” before you leave home. Here’s what to include:
- A small bag or envelope to safely store the lost tooth
- A tiny container, such as a coin purse, to “present” the tooth under your child’s pillow
- A small amount of “Tooth Fairy money”—perhaps a dollar bill or change
- A small glitter bottle or confetti for a sprinkle of magic
A Tooth Fairy Kit doesn’t take up much space and can make the experience feel planned and special, even on the go!
Add Some Local Flair
Sometimes your travels may take you to some fairly standard or ordinary places. But if you’re far from home, perhaps out of state or even out of the country, you can take some steps to let your child know the Tooth Fairy is really paying attention to them! Consider:
- Using local currency instead of U.S. dollars as their prize if traveling internationally.
- Write a note from the Tooth Fairy that can be customized with the location of your trip
- Use a local snack or treat instead of money for their reward
Don’t Forget to Get Your Story Straight!
“How will the Tooth Fairy know how to find me?” might be a common question for any traveling kid. This is where you get to let your creativity run wild and create a tradition that maybe they’ll keep with them even when they’re older. Whether you want to choose TF-GPS, a glowing tooth trail, or any magical tooth-tracking methodology, just be sure you and your entire family are all on board to keep the story straight.
As long as you have your trusty Tooth Fairy Kit and a story at the ready, you’re well prepared to take on magical tooth duties no matter where you are in the world!
